"IT EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS!" These
are some of the words used by guests to describe EXOTICA COTTAGES.
The owners of Dominica's world-class nature
tourism enterprise are Fae and Athie Martin, the husband and wife
team that conceived of, and now run EXOTICA.
The first phase of
EXOTICA COTTAGES was completed in May 1996 when eight (8) cottages
were blended into a carefully terraced slope of four-acre
property and positioned to mimic the gentle flow of the hills
to the South. The cottages are distinctive combination of local
stone and wood that capture many features of traditional Caribbean
architecture including high pitched multi-sided roof, wide veranda,
scalloped face and vented ceilings.
By the time of its completion some fifty-eight
flowering plants and thirty-eight fruit trees had been planted,
crating a botanic garden-like atmosphere replete with the soothing
blend of aromas of mint, basil, jasmine and honeysuckle.
Each cottage is named after an exotic tropical
fruit and is attended by its named tree, planted nearby. Flowering
shrubs caress the sides of the cottages, bringing many species
of birds within touching distance as you relax on your private
veranda. The chirping of these same birds provide the gentle wake-up
call for Exotica's guests in the morning following evenings that
are cooled by regular mountain breezed and natural night sounds
that coax you into the best sleep you've had in years.
One of the most distinctive features of this
unique mountain resort perched 1,200 feet on the slopes of Morne
Anglais, is the fully operational organic farm where a blend of
vegetables, herbs, root crops and legumes are cultivated and used
in the on-site Sugar Apple Cafe'.
The exquisite cottages, the organic farm, flowers,
fruits, Athie's sweet pan music and most important, the wonders
of Fae's culinary creations served at the Sugar Apple Cafe', ensure
that your Exotica experience exceeds expectations.
